National Transgender HIV Testing Day

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

National Transgender HIV Testing Day is observed each year (beginning in 2016) on April 18. The latest CDC data shows newly diagnosed HIV rates for transgender people are three times the national average. Today is an opportunity for us to focus on HIV testing, prevention, and treatment among transgender people and bring us closer to zero.

This year, as part of our observance of National Transgender HIV Testing Day we were fortunate to have partnered with Hope and Help, Hispanic Family Counseling, and Bliss Cares in a community advocate panel discussion hosted by the Hispanic Federation and Proyecto Somos Orlando.

The CDC's national #DoingIt campaign is a new national HIV testing and prevention campaign designed to motivate all adults to get tested for HIV and know their status. As part of the Act Against AIDS initiative, Doing It delivers the message that HIV testing should be a part of everyone’s regular health routine to keep ourselves and our community healthy. He’s doing it. She’s doing it. We’re doing it. YOU should be doing it, too.

Listen as Chandi Moore tells us about why she’s #DoingIt, and the importance of HIV testing in the Transgender community.
